What stands between us and feeling at peace with the mirror? Is it age, weight, sagging, wrinkles — or social media? Why are so many people dissatisfied with their appearance?
As someone whose work is to help people look more beautiful, healthier, younger and happier, I often think about this question. Most of us want a better, more refined version of ourselves.
In recent years, social media has intensified comparison. We compare our bodies, faces, homes, relationships and lifestyles with curated images of celebrities, models, actors and influencers.
This can make us feel that the parts of us that do not resemble those idealized images are inadequate. Yet self-worth cannot be built entirely on comparison.
