Septorhinoplasty

This procedure is performed when internal nasal structures make breathing through the nose difficult or obstruct it, with the aim of improving respiratory quality.

The nose is one of the most important parts of the respiratory system.

A nose that does not allow healthy breathing may cause chronic headaches, dark circles under the eyes, dry mouth, snoring, chronic upper respiratory tract problems and chronic fatigue.

Septorhinoplasty is the solution for a nose that may look aesthetically pleasing but still has unresolved breathing problems.

During septorhinoplasty surgery, problems affecting breathing, such as a deviated septum, polyps or enlarged turbinates, are addressed and corrected. During the same operation, the cartilage, soft tissue and bony structures forming the nose are reshaped.

If an aesthetic intervention to the nose has already been planned, rhinoplasty may be combined with septorhinoplasty so that the aesthetic changes planned together with the patient can be performed during the same operation.

What happens after septorhinoplasty surgery?

  • Depending on the patient’s condition, they may be discharged the same day or stay in the hospital for one night.
  • Facial pain, swelling and bruising are generally less pronounced.
  • To help swelling subside more quickly, keeping the head elevated at approximately a 30-degree angle while lying down is recommended for about one week.
  • If a perforated silicone splint that supports nasal breathing has been used, it is removed after 1-2 days.
  • The plastic splint is removed after 1 week.
  • Depending on the procedure performed and your profession, you may return to work by the end of the first week.
  • Numbness at the nasal tip may occur. This usually improves gradually within 2-3 months.
  • Light-paced exercise may be resumed after 2 weeks, and strenuous exercise after 6 weeks.
  • The nose assumes its final shape around the sixth month.
