Who Is a Suitable Candidate for Breast Lift Surgery?

Individuals who experience breast sagging due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations or structural reasons are suitable candidates for breast lift surgery.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight gain and loss, and aging may cause sagging in the breast structure. These significant changes in breast volume can make women feel unhappy. Breast Lift Surgery is a surgical procedure performed to restore sagging breasts to a firmer and more elevated position.

Breast lift surgery may be performed for patients with naturally sagging breasts, large and sagging breasts, breasts that have lost volume and become ptotic after pregnancy and breastfeeding, breasts that sag after major weight loss, and breasts that become droopy with age.

The patient and surgeon decide together on the approach that will provide the best result for breast lift surgery. The nipple and sagging breast tissue are reshaped. The nipple is repositioned appropriately and excess skin is removed.

There is no breast lift procedure that leaves absolutely no scar. Depending on the degree of sagging, scars may form in different patterns. Although these scars may be noticeable at first, they gradually become less visible over time.

If an implant is used during breast lift surgery, the scar can be discreetly concealed around the brownish areolar area and along the junction between the areola and the lighter breast skin.

At what age can breast lift surgery be performed?

Breast lift surgery is most commonly performed on middle-aged patients who have given birth. It may also be performed on younger patients with structurally sagging breasts. In patients with tubular breast deformity, colloquially referred to as “goat breast,” surgery may be considered at a very early age. This is a congenital condition and is usually noticed around the ages of 13-14 when breast development begins.

What happens after breast lift surgery?

  • Patients may usually be discharged 5-6 hours after surgery.
  • At the dressing appointment performed 2 days later, the wound is checked.
  • Swelling and temporary numbness in the nipple area may be observed in the early period.
  • Patients can generally return to work 3-4 days after the operation.
  • The dressing is removed after 1 week.
  • A supportive sports bra is worn for 6 weeks.
  • Avoiding strenuous sports for 3 months is recommended.
  • There is no scar-free breast lift surgery, and scars may vary depending on the degree of sagging. These scars become less noticeable over time.
