Aesthetic Treatments at a Young Age
Digital developments and changes in healthcare are introducing a new model of living. Platforms such as Zoom are now used much more in professional and social life, while selfie culture and social media visibility continue to reshape the idea of beauty.
As digital communication tools have become more widespread, demand for aesthetic treatments at younger ages has increased noticeably. However, when aesthetic concerns are the main reason, body development must be completed before elective procedures are considered; in most cases this means waiting until the age of 18.
There is clearly growing interest in medical aesthetic procedures at earlier ages, especially treatments such as lip filler. This makes ethical boundaries extremely important. Responsibility belongs not only to the aesthetic surgeon, but also to families and, in some cases, schools.
For patients under 18, plastic surgery procedures may be considered only in selected situations, such as prominent ear correction or severe breast enlargement in adolescent girls, when there is functional, psychological or developmental impact.
The most important principle is not to follow trends, but to protect the young person’s physical and emotional wellbeing.
