Who can undergo nose aesthetics surgery?

Anyone with concerns such as appearance or breathing can undergo nose surgery (rhinoplasty), provided facial bone development has been completed. The average minimum age is around 17 for girls and 18 for boys.

Nose aesthetics is one of the most complex areas of aesthetic surgery. Surgical planning should be personalized and designed to optimize both appearance and breathing function. Although techniques are described as open or closed rhinoplasty, both approaches ultimately serve the same goal: a nose that is harmonious with the face.

The difference between breathing through the nose and breathing through the mouth is greater than many people realize. Air taken in through the nose is filtered and warmed, and the structure of the nose supports more efficient breathing. Good nasal breathing is also important for restful sleep.

For this reason, correcting the septum and the internal airway passage is often an essential part of rhinoplasty. In primary surgery, the existing cartilage is usually sufficient to reshape and support the nose. The final surgical plan is determined through a detailed dialogue between the patient and the surgeon.

Today, the preferred result is not an obviously operated appearance, but a natural nose that blends well with the face and does not immediately reveal that surgery has been performed. Although rhinoplasty is often associated with women, functional breathing problems are also very common in men.

Are the results of nose surgery permanent?

Rhinoplasty does not have a limited lifespan; its results are considered permanent. The final shape of the nose usually becomes more apparent after about 6 months, once the swelling has largely resolved.

What happens after surgery?

  • Swelling and bruising around the nose and eyes generally subside within about 2 weeks, depending on the procedure performed.
  • The sutures placed at the nasal tip are usually removed on the 5th day.
  • The silicone splints placed inside the nose and along the nasal bridge are generally removed 1 week after surgery.
  • The postoperative period is at least as important as the surgery itself. The nose should be protected from trauma for at least 6 months.
  • Using the recommended creams and sprays and performing massage when advised may help swelling resolve faster and support proper healing.
