Who can undergo scar treatment?
Anyone with surgical scars, cuts, burns, skin injuries or other scars anywhere on the body may be a candidate for scar revision.
Scars located in visible areas such as the face and arms may cause significant psychological distress and may lead to a loss of self-confidence.
Scar treatment, also known as scar revision, reduces the appearance of scars as much as possible. The success of treatment may vary depending on personal factors such as age, smoking and alcohol use, existing diseases, as well as the location, age and size of the scar.
Wounds on the face tend to heal faster than those on the back, while older scars may respond less effectively to treatment.
Methods used in scar treatment include:
- Fractional laser
- Microneedling RF
- Fractional laser and other laser methods
- Dermabrasion
- PRP
- Dermapen
- Chemical peels
- Fillers and fat injection
What happens after scar treatment?
- Sutures generally heal within 5–10 days.
- Residual marks may initially appear prominent and red, but over time they become closer to the natural skin tone.
- Although scars may not disappear completely, improvement can continue for up to 2 years.
- During this period, creams, gels and laser treatments may also be recommended.
